In Rememberance

I took this self-portrait about 5 about two years after I retired and yes my hair really is STLL that short ) years ago at our 3/4 scale replica of the Vietnam Wall.

I am looking at only one name, SP4 Thomas “TJ” Chandler. He is on Panel 6E, Row 9, third name in. He was a very close friend of our family who was KIA March 15, 1966 at the ripe old age of 22 in that God forsaken hole of a country called Vietnam. I have a lot of very fond memories of TJ. We used to play catch whenI was 7 years old. He taught me how to throw a curve ball. He was a tall, lanky kid with a long Tennessee drawl and ears that stuck out. He was not drafted; TJ enlisted in the USArmy in 1965 because he felt an obligation to do so. I will never forget him. Rest in Peace forever TJ.

In my 23 years in the US Army Infantry I have seen many people die, but there are 4, who I will never forget. Two died in training and two in combat. Michael, Ron, Don and Ricky I know you are in a better place.

I won't like/thank this.It would not mean what should be said. You have my deepest sympathy for how you feel. I'm a vet that lost friends as well. Both on and off the field. Carry on troop.

As the old saying goes, "a picture says a thousand words" and this does. It is reminiscent of the photographs i have seen in The National Geographic talking about Vietnam and the wall. Very beautifully done.

There really isn't an adequate way to truly thank and honor all our service personnel but I do want to say 'Thank you' for everything.
