I wonder...

...if you are not a member of this forum would you take all those photos you post or does the forum influence you taking some shoots you actually never would take?

I have several thousand finished plant and flower images that predate my purchasing a nikon and joining this illustrious group, but that is part of my duties at the Hort department. I am slowly working through the files, re-shooting with better quality and a better eye (I hope) and post some here that I think people might enjoy. I have only lately started trying birds, but that was a result of finally getting a capable camera, not a lack of desire. Perhaps the only forum motivated diversion would be bugs -- not a lot of specific interest, but having purchased a macro lens for another reason and seeing the shots posted by more adept folks, I have dipped my toe in the water a few times. Anything else I post randomly, I would have taken regardless. That said, I am entirely sure that I am better now than before joining Nikonites -- and yes, yes, I know; still lots to learn.

I think that we become inspired by all the great photos we see here and while we may try something we've seen here t he photo and the technique will be strictly of our own point of view.

Of course, there is the per post/image payment that should not be ignored -- you are getting your checks, aren't you?

You know the Monthly Assignment is what makes me think the most. As a hobby-photographer I am shooting for my family, my friends on some social media and my Home-town Blog. I think that photos posted on this forum inspires me a lot. I look at the photos and think what is it that makes me like, love this photo.

The forum is my photography gym where I train, try out new skills, and hone my skills. So if it weren't for the forum I would not take all the pictures I take. However, my photography skills would not be what they are.

There is no doubt about any forum dealing with photography having a huge impact on the work of all of it's participants - we like to take photos, but first of all, we like to WATCH (remember Peter Sellers in "Being there" - "I like to watch!";))...

What a great question. No doubt in my mind that this forum drives me to tie photos every day.
Thanks for the reminder of the monthly challenge. A great place to peruse photos and one I haven't visited lately.

Ha. I am more of the "Oh crap, I can't post that to the forum" kinda guy.
but in all seriousness this experience on this forum has been amazing.

Just the monthly assignments and the 365 project have caused me to take photos I never would have otherwise. On top of that, the work and suggestions of others here have influenced me to try certain types of photography that I might have never tried before. The same can be said about things I see on Flickr, 500px and other sites.

The only forum which inspired me to take photographs are cooking forums. I like to cook and one of the best methods of documenting recipes and having a modicum of repeatability is to take photographs of all the ingredients and steps. Most of my photographs are taken with my 5MP Nokia windows phone, as that is most handy and more than enough resolution for forum posts. It is mostly Indian cooking, so if any one is interested here is what I have
Western
. Multigrain Bread - make it every 10 days
. Pickled Cucumbers - once a year
. Ham - once two years
Indian
. Slow cooked Mutton Curry
. Mutton Biryani - 4/5 times a year
. Chicken Biryani - 2/3 times a year
. Black slow cooked Dal - once a month
. Roast whole Goat leg - 4/5 times a year for parties at home
. Roast Chicken
. Black Carrot Drink - Kanji - annually at this time
. Sag - Mustard + Spinach + Radish leaves cooked North Indian style - in winters

In pursuit of my profession I have take tens of thousands of photographs of :
1. Roads at all stages of construction - when I was consulting and designing highways.
2. Building construction - from demolition to finishing.

Now that I have all but retired I take photographs for the pleasure of it. I have ordered D3300 as I was finding my D70 and D300 bit too heavy and dated.

Aroy, when I was reding your name this came into my mind: : Aroy is Thai and means delicious!
Thanks for the complement.
And here it means invincible (cannot be won).
By the way can you find out the availability (and price) of Nikon 28mmF2.8AIS in Thailand. Here in India it is not available.
