I think I found a glitch

When I shoot in any manual mode M A S P. my AF assist light only works when I have my focus point in the middle. When I move it to side, my assist light for focus will not illuminate. Any ideas why? Thank you in advance.

I had the same issue before when I had my D80 and after reading my owner's manual, it explained it very well when this feature was disabled or enabled depending on the settings. You should try doing that first. It will help out in the long run.

I did change it in settings under AF assist. But the only other result I get is it will not light up at all.

Damian - the AF illumination assist is not a full time feature. There are settings that will disable this feature just like what you have discovered. AF illumination will also be disabled when using other creative photography or scene modes such as: Landscape, sports, night landscape, beach/snow, sunset, dusk/dawn, pet portrait, night vision, and miniature effect.

Now ask me how I knew about this. The answer is on my first post above or download and read below.
