I think I did a bad thing... :(

So going through my local CL ads I came across a used 70-210 F4 (circa 80s version). Went to see the lens and it was definitely in great condition for its age. Picked up the lens. So currently don't know if this is buyers regret or not. But well here goes one of the first few images I processed.

No level adjustments from RAW this is just converted to jpg.

Why do you think it's a bad thing? What are your thoughts on the photo you posted? I think I saw one of these a few months back--it was a push/pull zoom. It might have been around $199 and was in really good condition. Not sure how that price compares with what you paid.

Not sure just yet, as I was really looking forward to more over get an 80-200 F2.8 but right now I have nothing lined up where I would need that lens, so wasn't looking to spend the money for it.
Now with this what I ended up paying for it was $170 and FWIW, I think that so far it's not a bad lens, the AF is a bit slow on my D90. Some of the images ended up being a bit soft on F4, but it may end up being due to the lower lighting. On this photo I ended up bouncing the light and it did help some. The bokeh so far looks smooth.
I guess I just really need to go out and get a few more shots during the day and see how it looks afterwards.

I haven't tried that lens, so I have no real insight on it's worth. But after you play with it for awhile I'd love to hear what you think of it. :)

yea, a few more shots is what's needed.
When I bought my Sigma 70-300mm lens, I was not really happy with it either. I struggled with that lens for a month, before I finally started not hating it.
Then I bought a Nikon 55-200mm VR lens and did not see too much difference.
Then later I started using my Sigma again, and somehow I started taking better pictures with it. I'm still not in love with it yet, but now I actually warmed up to it, and liking it a lot.

If I am not mistaken there was a "D" version of this lens and was supposedly a very nice lens, a bit better than the non-D version here. I may be confusing things though. I looked at this lens at one time myself.

There is a D version that did replace this, however the D version that did had an aperture of F4-5.6 which was not what I was looking for.
That version is supposedly a bit quicker in terms of AF, however what I did want this (or any others) for was the constant aperture.
The 80-200 F2.8 is on my shortlist of wants... till then, this will be more than enough as I do not do enough portrait shots to warrant stepping up to a 70-200 F2.8 VR.

Shot looks good. Maybe show a 100% crop. Yes you can't really judge it based on just one photo. You could check for things like fringing, coma, flaring, etc.. Was that shot with your D3100 or D90? Yes the lens looks in very nice condition.

D90.. I haven't used my D3100 in several months now. I just do the once in a while turn it on take a few shots and put her back on the shelf.
Well it's hard to take shots when it's dark out. I'll have to wait till the morning (based on weather) to see what the new lens will really do.

I think the lens you picked up is good...From what i've read it is a little soft at F4 but by F8 is excellent...Enjoy..

I have this lens too and am happy with it. It's not as sharp as the 70-200 2.8, but it's way smaller and lighter. And it can focus quite close too. One thing I read recently is that it's not sealed very well and can pump dust in if you are too fast with the push-pull zoom.

Pedro so far I have noticed that yes some images are ever so slightly soft at F4. But sharpens at anything above. However I still need some grinde time with the lens to see what it's capable of.
