New guy here, I am an old Sub Sailor going back to the 60's-70's> spent my youth in the arctic, and worked in power plants after that. I have been using Nikon cameras for some time, started with the N2020. For some reason I had gotten out of photography for a number of years and decided to go back. So I went to the store to buy some film and could not find film anywhere. Even the photography store where I got my film developed was out of business. Best Buy told me that things were shifting to Digital Cameras. So I bought a Nikon entry level digital kit and worked on that, my son was leaving on his first Midshipman's Training Cruise and I wanted to get some photos of that. I ended up with a D850 and a Z 50(to replace my iPhone). We had a bad flood and I got a MRSA infection in my right hand. After fairly extreme surgery, I ended up with nerve damage and loss of a lot of strength in it. The D850 and lenses were just heavy as all get out. I got a Z 7II and lens adapter and kept on, but bought some Z lenses as time passed. I gave my 850 to my son after he graduated. Two things happened recently, my new heart Doc. gave me some very different new and better news and I turned 78; I had one of those new lease on life kinda things, so I traded in the Z 7II and a 105MM macro, that I was not using all that much anyway, in on a new Z 8. Perhaps I will try getting some extension tubes if I feel any macro moments coming on. I have been using nothing but Apple computers since 1980s (Apple II), and kind of like cameras, have been through a mess of those. I am kinda set in my ways about certain things, one of which is I do not like subscription software (we did not start out renting/subscribing software). So I found and bought DxO PhotoLab for example. I will not upgrade if they do not have anything that I want. Now it looks like I will need to learn about color space. I got a Mac mini M2 and Apple Studio Display. There is something about the settings all being P3, which I think is between sRGB and Adobe RGB, but Nikon shoots in only those two. I hope that I can discuss that and learn on the forum here.
