When buying a brand new lens, you're covered by the warranty, so if anything was amiss with the lens, you'd be able to exchange it with another. Having said that, if you wanted to bring your camera and your own memory card and a laptop computer to the shop with you to compare shots, and the store agreed to it, then by all means go for it.
