[QUOTE="spb_stan, post: 765451, member: 43545"] Here in North western Russia, in St Petersburg, this last month is the hottest in recorded history. Since 1728 weather measurements of temp, humidity, wind, and visibility every hour, this is the warmest with least rain. The city is within 500 miles of the Arctic Circle. No rrain, and a number of days over 100F and average daytime temp has been 89F. The stunning parks and flowers everywhere in the city(600 well maintained parks in the city limits) are not watered in the summer due to the periodic rain and moderate temperatures historically. The beaches were busy well into the wee hours. Few people have air conditions because it was never needed. In the historic city center where I live the walls are 3 feet thick of brick or stone so they act as moderators of heat and cold. This year those masses reached enough stored heat to prevent much of a cool down at night. I am returning to California in mid September for 3-4 weeks and spend most of that time in the central valley where temperatures usually got to 115 in the summer and that will be a shock to me after not dealing with that since moving from Sacramento in the central valley to Marin country just about San Francisco for 1/2 time living and the mountains of Eastern California where I had a horse ranch. My main business was in Sausalito right next to the SF Bay where it never got over 82. My 200 mile commute was usually done at night and avoided the heat, or by air which avoid the heat as well. I flew my Piper Arrow from Placerville hill mountain top airport to the Marin airport in Novato 12 miles north of my home and recording studio main business, and avoided the valley heat most of my adult life. One of my side businesses was contracting with 3 Forest Service National Forests to provide service of their two way radio systems and provide support for the yearly forest fires. We had some bad years of forest fires but never like the most recent 10 years. Now on this return I expect to visit the high country where I had so many friends and fond memories and will be surprised if anything is still standing. Northern Hemisphere climate has definitely changed. The warming trend in Northern Russia has been welcome with shorter winters an a lot more sun but this is the first year locals have complained about too warm and too short of winter.
