I just got another SD memory card. How do you store the one(s) not in use? Would it be okay to put in a little plastic bag?

I keep mine in the little plastic case that came with it. Seems like it offers enough protection...hopefully. that is.

I keep them in the plastic container they came in. I don think the bag will hurt them, but it won't offer much protection. They do make little storage containers that will hold several. i keep them in a zippered pocket on the inside of mp my bag.

do not put your card in a plastic bag, static can do a number on it. Store it in the plastic container it came in or buy a memory card organizer.

They're pretty resilient little things. I've kept mine in plastic bags in my camera bag for years and haven't had any issues. You can put them in that little plastic holder they came in too, or buy a cheap memory card holder for a few bucks on amazon.

I put my CF cards in the little plastic cases they come in and then put them in a baggie and remove as much of the air as I can before I close the zip lock

Thanks for your replies. This San Disk didn't come in a little case. It was a little piece of plastic (on top) and the card board wrap on both sides. I'll have to check my original D5100 kit package and see if there's one in there.

Guess am too late, but you get these nifty memory card holders on eBay..
very inexpensive but serves the purpose very well.
you get 4 in 1, 8 in 1 & 12 in 1 holders..
you can also choose to use SD or CF cards... and they are in a protective box as well.

If you want something expensive, then you can go for the Pelican cases which will probably protect your cards even if a tank were to go on it.. or so it seems for the price they expect you to pay :p

I have different camera bags for each of my two cameras, so I keep the SD cards with the D40 and the CF cards with the D200, each in their own bags. The cards are stored in their respective bags. I keep a couple of spare cards in my Black Rapid strap....just in case. :)

I keep a spare card in each of my cameras Black Rapid strap and the others I keep in the Pelican cases. I have the SD cards for the D5100 and the CF cards for the D200 so that means two Pelican cases. They are a bit pricey but I think they are worth it.

I use those memory card holders also. I think the one I have hold 10-15 cards. But it seems I dont use many cards. When i'm done with a shoot, I import the photos and format the card and insert it back to the camera. I can't remember the last time I looked for an empty card. I used to save full cards. But was told thats its not the best way to store images, so I use an external hard drive.
