After using the Pen, when inserting it back into its cap, you have to twist it. That cleans the pad and deposits a fresh layer of micro carbon back on the head. Always use light pressure when using on a lens, starting from the outside of the lens and working around the edges to the inside, then out again. Works extremely well when used properly. I also wet clean my lenses if they really need it, with micro fiber cloths I pick up from my optometrist.
