Well, a lot of us have been reading about the 'Polar Vortex Freeze' & how it's the coldest time in 30 years in the US.
Most of my clients seem to be off work due to the weather, initially from the South & East but i hear now it's effecting all states :(
i can't even imagine how it would be at temperatures -30C.. Brrrrr
Hope all of you in the states are OK & so are your loved ones.

Take care people

Yeah, we're fine. Schools were sending out notices to parents reminding them to dress their children correctly (duh!). I'm sure everyone in Canada is laughing at us. :) It hasn't been quite that cold here (Philly), but the wind chill was pretty uncomfortable yesterday.

I'm hanging in there. The worst part, at least for me, is the hours I work. I work the afternoon shift so I don't get out of work until at least 10:30pm. So when I get out it's dark, usually at it's coldest. And the streets are not at the best for a 40 mile commute home. The last few nights have been the worst. People are not paying attention or remembering that road salt doesn't work well at these temps and the bridges are icy on the thruway. Every night I see at least 6 accidents. We just deal with it!

The problem in the Deep South where I live is that we are not equipped for frozen roads and this extreme cold. Schools let out because many kids still live out in the country where the roads are dirt. With all the rain we have had the roads turned to ice. We don't have snow or ice tires.

Just an FYI...it's not an actual Polar Vortex that you're experiencing, but an offshoot...a baby, if you will...called a Hudson's Bay Vortex. And just so ya know....we Canadians don't like it either! :) We just have to deal with it.

So you're basically saying we all can blame Canada for this?

It's a comfortable 15F (~-9c) here this morning in the sun! I walked around outside for awhile to get some fresh air. Too many days of well below zero and strong wind. I live in a little black hole of weather... when the air is clear with no wind, we tend to drop about 10 degrees below the official weather at the airport 2 miles away. Its been around -20F the past few nights.

The other night I tried the frozen bubble thing some folks were doing. Dead calm, -20. I couldn't get the bubbles to stay down for anything. It was like a releasing helium balloons. They shot straight up and hovered around the tree tops for many seconds and then slowly and lightly tinkled to the ground and shattered around the yard. Very cool, but too dark to try a shot. My wife refused to come out and hold the flashlight, lol.

And then you have these guys that sit out there and fish all freaking day no matter how cold it is....

It's been tough here in San Diego, we've been experiencing high temps dipping down into the mid 70's degree F and I've been forced to wear a long sleeve shirt with my shorts and flip-flops. Which all begs the question - where's that dang global warming when you need it?!? :p

Sadly, GW is the leading cause of the jet stream dipping so much lower than its normal pattern. Large temperature differences between the north and the mid-section of the globe acted as a barrier for the jet stream, however as the temp delta between these two regions grow smaller, dips like this will become more and more common. Like the famous Chinese curse - may you live in interesting times - things are going to get very interesting in the near future.

It's been uncomfortable here for my wife an I since we didn't have fuel oil and have been using space heaters. The temp has gotten down into the negatives outside at times I believe. But we are hoping the temp will get back up to more reasonable levels pretty soon. We plan to be better prepared in the future. But at the moment we are cold, unfortunately. :(

It was in the upper 40's here in south FL yesterday and very windy. Chris wore shorts and a sweatshirt over a t-shirt on his bike ride. He came home about 10 minutes later and put a flannel shirt under his sweatshirt. He only did 5 miles.

Today it's in the mid 50's and drizzling. He just left for a bike ride. Oops, he back, it's raining now.

It's a practically tropical ~12C here in the uk!

only downside is all that snow you've got in the US just turns to rain by the time it gets to us!!

Hope it warms up for you soon, bud. Try to stay warm. Snuggle with the wife. :)
