Hi! I got my first Nikon a week ago, a D3100 with the 18-55 kit lens. After using an Olympus OM2N until 15 years ago, I have been limited to compact digitals until now. I suddenly had the desire to get a decent camera for a change and my birthday was the ideal opportunity to take the plunge. I can truly admit that I am amazed at the quality and ease of use of the Nikon which costs less in real terms than a Kodak 1 Mega compact I bought in 98.

I hope to learn lots from those here who are far more knowledgeable than myself about DSLRs and maybe make some friends along the way.

Welcome to the forum; you will love your D3100. There is lots to learn and this is a great place to start; there is lots of good information on here.

I also have the D3100. I've had it for about 2.5 years now. Really love the shots I can get out of it!
