Going to a crop body rather than the 1.4 converter provides the tighter crop without the loss of light. I don't have any experience with the Sigma 150-600 on the D500, but Nikon's 200-500 performs very well. Since you would need to replace both the body and the lens if you go the way of the D500, that might be worth checking out. Sigma and Tamron both make the 150-600s that provide another 100mm of focal length, but the Nikon benefits from a fixed f/5.6 aperture all the way through the zoom length, so handles a teleconverter a little easier.</blockquote>
