I saw a discussion about this before. I can kinda see both sides of the issue but personally I would get annoyed at the ignorance.

I just got told today that my camera takes nice pictures. They don't know any better. Then some say "I wish my camera took nice pictures like yours."

A friend liked the pictures of mine and asked some questions about dslr's as he has not had one before he said he mainly takes happy snaps for face book but wanted a camera that takes good photos I told him the camera only shoots what you point it at ! So he went out and got a canon 6D !

My wife and I were eating at a pizza place downtown this evening and we saw a "Professional" photographer shooting a couple across the street. He had a giant long lens with a hood on it and was about 8 feet away from the couple while shooting them. Now I need to set the picture a little. It was late afternoon and full overcast. No SUN. He had an assistant using a reflector and pointing it at the couple. My wife asked me what the assistant was holding so I told her. My wife then looked outside again and asked "What does he think he is reflecting? There is no sun." I was close enough to see what they were doing and the reflector in each set up was not even facing the sun or even the same direction and I watched the couple and it did not matter if the reflector was pointed to them or not. It did not have any light to reflect.

I am hoping for the couple's sake that he had a really GREAT camera because he did not have any skill or talent.

Funny stories!

Last weekend, man to me: you make very good pictures. Wife: she has a good camera. Me: ...So. Nice weather.

Mostly I try to explain, that it does not matter how good or fast your camera is, if you go home with 500 pics with wrong setting.
But I am so gonna try the duck answer next time, lol.
