I hope someone can help me. Im looking at buying a d2x on ebay and i was reading Ken Rockwell site and i noticed he said to be carefull there are scammers out there....How do i know if im bidding on a real d2x? Thanks!

First, check the seller's track record. eBay makes that easy to do.

Second, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Third, many eBayers sell what is referred to as "grey market" cameras and lenses. They may or may not necessarily point that out in their ads. Grey market are usually imports and come with NO manufacturer's warranty whatsoever. Some folks think they are worth the risk. I'm not in that camp unless it's a fairly low-dollar item.

Fourth, stop listening to Ken Rockwell (Although on this one he is correct. Every clock is right twice a day).

Ok this is what I do,check how many deals they have had and their feedback rating...

If the rating is lower then 99% I don't go near them...Just wondering why the D2X...
A friend of mine had the D2x and ended up selling it to get the D300 + there is the D300s that has video

Yeah, I'd be careful, too, about that deal. And like Pedro, I'd get the D300 before I'd waste money on a D2x.

I have to say I too stumbled on Ken Rockwells site. But after reading through a bit you will see that he contradicts himself a lot. I opted to flee quickly! As for eBay there are some legit deals out there. You just have to be careful. I agree with what has already been said. Verify the feedback if it's under 99% it's best to pass. If they have a low number of feedback also PASS. They can be new and have 100% so really look at their numbers before bidding. Ask questions if something isn't clear and if it doesn't sound right run!

Make sure he accepts PayPal, Make sure returns are accepted. Same comment on rating near 100% and should be more than 1 item. I'm confident D2X can produce good pics but it is old. I agree a D300 is a better choice.

It doesnt matter a hoot if any seller says " No Returns " in their auctions. If the camera turns out to be a lemon, you would still get your money back, as stating " no returns " means nothing. Its just there to scare people, but consumer law will laugh at that statement

I have bought everything from cars to cameras on ebay and as long as you do your homework on the seller, you will have a tough time getting burned. Its all about feedback.

I've considered getting the D2X too! But after doing some research and talking to my more knowledgeable friends here, I bought the D300 for $640.00! My D300 just arrived today and I'm thrilled with it so far! So I too would recommend the D300 over the D2X!
