Hi all. I just bought the above lens and it's meant to be autofocus. It is on my friends D3100 but not on my D5100. Is it a problem with m camera, do you think it needs a service, or so it that the camera doesn't autofocus this lens. It's quite old, second hand lens bit worked on my friends Nikon.
thank you

If it's one of these it should auto focus..Sigma AF 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG HSM (DX)

If it doesn't have HSM on it somewhere it wont...Neither the D3100 or D5100 has an auto focus motor in them

What Alan said (though the DG in the lens designation means "Digital Glass" and does not refer to crop - DC is their cropped designation). But if it's focusing on your friend's D3100 then I suspect it has the built-in focus motor, so it should focus on yours. If it's not focusing it could be a contact issue. Not sure that you need service, but you might want to check with a local shop.
