Before you get too caught up in firmware, you can mount the flash, powered on, and check your camera's menu under firmware. If you see an 'S' version, your camera is capable of updating firmware. I think most of the current models can do this. If you don't see S listed, the your camera is not capable OR the flash is messed up to the point it can't communicate with your camera. Either way, pursuing a firmware update would be a dead end without seeing an 'S' version listed.</p></blockquote><p></p>
