Help! Big problem with Nikon Fisheye 8-15 with FTZ II

I am un underwater photographer and this lens is the "go to" for wide angle underwater photographer.

As you all know, Nikon has not produced a zoom fisheye for Z mount. So I need to use the 8-15. Many photographers use that combination.
Its out of production and I could not find a new or second hand lens in Australia. Found on one ebay from Tokyo for over A$2k!
Anyway I was foolish enough not to try it on the Z8 for a few months.
Importantly, it worked on the D7200.
When used with the z* + FTZ II, it states "Error. Press Shutter Release Button to Reset". and it never improves from there.....
All contact/connections are clean.
I did the Z8 firmware to 2.1.

I cant find any answers.

Any thoughts?

I don't know about that specific combination. But I have a couple of thoughts about solving your problem.

I understand the 8-15mm is a full-frame lens, but I am reading between the lines here and believe you previously used it on a D7200. With the crop-factor of the D7200, you had a 12mm field of view at the widest. Getting pretty close to the more common ultrawide size of 14mm for full frame.

Do you require that fisheye effect? Then I guess we hope somebody else has the solution. If the actual fisheye effect is not needed, then perhaps a Z14-24mm f/2.8 or perhaps better the Z14-30mm f/4 could work? No FTZ would be needed then.

Thanks BF Hammer!
Yes, understand. I also have the 14-30 so all is not lost. But yes in underwater photography, the fisheye effect makes a nice feature.
Thanks for taking the time!
