I have always loved taking pictures and I was always  trying to take artsy pictures, but the only thing that was holding me back was the limitations of a point and shoot camera (Sony DSC W300).  I have been doing months of research; this way I could find the camera that not only fit a college budget but also would provide enough quality where I wouldn't feel like I needed to upgrade a year down the road.  I finally decided on the D3100 for many reasons, and after lurking on ebay for a while two weeks ago, I won a brand new D3100 and 18-55mm VR kit lens, memory card, bag and battery for $315! The seller got it as a gift and never used it, so it just sat in the camera bag for a year.  I also purchased a 55-200mm VR nikkor for fairly cheap as well.  I got it in the mail a couple of days ago and tried it out on a trip to the everglades. It was absolutely amazing shooting with a DSLR for the first time compared to my P&S camera. I can't wait to expand my portfolio using my new D3100 (except for my underwater photos... can't afford a housing for my DSLR yet, maybe someday).
