Hello all!

I have joined this forum as I am trying to re-discover my passion for photography! I have enjoyed photography since I was 12 (so, for 20 years) and am trying to take it more seriously now as I have always loved it and receive compliments from friends, family, strangers....but don't practice as much as I would like!

I have a Nikon D60 and a Nikon FM2 ("Old Skool" film camera). I also have another cheap, drop-it-in-water-from-a-great-height camera, which is not a Nikon, but serves a purpose!

I am hoping to upgrade my main digital camera (D60) in the next few months, but am also currently building a house.... Where to find the cash :greedy_dollars: ? I have already lowered my aspirations from D800 to a D7000, but may have to just browse for a while (though the D60 is starting to really bug me..... could be the lens though).

Anyway, that's me! Hope to become a regular visitor to this forum and see some awesome photos while here!

Welcome Caz. Another D60 user here.

In what way is the D60 bugging you?

I've been using one for a number of years and I am quite happy with it. The only problem I have with it is it stinks at ISO above 400. Of course there are a lot of features I'd like to have, but I'm learning more by working around those and doing things the hard way.

Hi Mike :)

I've just been noticing than even with a tripod and remote release, my images don't seem to be "sharp".... At all!

There's one or two other things, like, sometimes if I change something in the settings it will usually affect the shutter-release option I have chosen. As I do mostly landscapes and low light photography, I like to use the remote release but find myself having to change the settings every two seconds.

I also had an issue recently where I decided to buy a large capacity memory card. Some of my photos started to go missing and it was worrying me. Apparently the D60 can't handle anything bigger than a 4GB card.... 16GB is more convenient when you like to shoot in RAW.

These are just the few drawbacks that I have discovered in recent weeks. On the upside, it motivated me to purchase a much better tripod! 'cause I thought it might help. Lol.

I have sharpness issues with my 55-200mm kit lens, but not my 18-55mm or my 105mm macro. Seems to do a little better in manual focus, but then again. It's a kit lens and not top shelf glass.

I've also seen the remote problem but never took the time to really look into it. Maybe I'll do a little more reading on it and see if I can come up with something.

Hey Caz.
I was looking online and found the Remote problem.

Go to your Custom Settings Menu (looks like the pencil)
Scroll down to item 17 (Remote on Duration)
This allows you to set it for 1 min (default), 5, 10 or 15 minutes.

Now from what I can tell, the rear monitor on time is also linked to this setting. The longer that stays on, the more battery you'll use.
That's all I can do right now, because I have to earn my pay.

Thanks for the welcomes:)

I'm very excited as I got my new Nikon D7000 today :) It's partly an early birthday present and partly a deal I made with the parentals. So excited to have it, but also overwhelmed! It's slightly more complicated than my D60 was. Will be searching this forum for some tips and tricks so that I don't have too spend too long reading the rather thick manual!

Hooray! Another member from Perth! I'm from Perth as well, but now living in Sydney :( I've been living over here for about 12 months now.

I too use to own a D60. I bought it about 4 and a half years ago from JB Hifi in Cannington and have since upgraded to the Nikon D7000 about two months ago. I love it! I don't regret making the upgrade at all. But the D60 certainly helped me keep my interest in photography since finishing high school but now I'm keen to take my skills to the next level with the new camera :D
