Hello from Glasgow

Hello, I'm Simon from Glasgow, Scotland. Just starting out with photography, looking forward to getting out there and learning. I have a D60 camera with a beginners pack lenses. I've spend a few days out and about with it, took a few photos today up at Loch Lomond and Loch Long, not the best but I'm looking to get help off some of you's. I'll try upload some of my photo's.

Thanks guys for welcoming me to the forum. What's the best quality format to upload photos in? It won't let me upload .NEF files. Jpeg seems quite poor quality.

Welcome to Nikonites Simon.

The largest size picture the site will allow you to upload is 2 MP. Do now worry for the quality since the screens only have a definition of 72 dots per inch (dpi).

So what I would suggest is that you take your pictures in raw, work on them in your post processing program of choice and then save it as TIFF or photoshop or what you usually use.
Then, again using your PP software of choice reduce the size of the picture. Now there are two ways you can do that. You can compress while saving in jpeg or you can specify the actual numbers of pixels you want and at what dpi.

If you upload pictures up to 1200x1200 pixels at 72dpi, saved in jpeg, then your file will be about 700-900 kb, depending on the scene. This would upload without a problem for sure.

I transferred the photos over to my phone, so I'll upload them from the phone the now.

I don't know the setting I used, I never took notes. I think there's a lot of light pollution.
