gps tracking tag for gear

anybody have experience with a gps tracking tag they use? car, or photo gear. I have insurance, but I prefer not to go through that route if god forbid theft happens. its not a safety net by itslef. juyst too much beaurocracy, you have to wait, pay a fee, etc... looking for a tag that I can track via phone app (android) using data/gps/wifi. not a 50-100 feet things but something in 2+ miles if need be.

had a shoot 2 weeks ago and was very suspicious of the folks at the venue and I do use a lasso type laptop alarm but with music blasting at the dance floor, nobody will hear it. saw a video of someone picking up and walking away with a photogs gear while he was shooting the ceremony in the day with everyone around. its easy to do it in the day without a worry so a dark dance place and the gear was near the exit. I cant take a chance.

any help appreciated.

thats an excellent extra that should be done. I want to cover all the angles. I use a laptop lasso lock and I have insurance but no way am I letting them take it. it would screw me royaly. I would lose weddings, ruin my reputaition. be without gear for a while and then rebuild my system again. so I want to prevent the theft itself and if it happens find them. kinda like a find my iphone. maybe ill just put an iphone in the bag and use that if I need to..

I've never used any, but there are several types of small GPS devices available...such as GPS pet tags or TrackR Bravo. They could be inserted into your camera bag. It will be interesting to hear if anyone uses them.

if i was getting paid for a gig and the location was questionable i would have a go-fer (go-fer this go-fer that) person watching the equipment and charge accordingly.

sometimes its not the place thats questaionable. sometimes its the people. there seems to be a lot of high quality places that crappy/shady people now come and do weddings at. they have money and feel that if they do in a nice quality place, that somehow that makes them quality people. it doesnt. the same people. you can put a bow on crap, try to cover it with perfume, decorate it, but tis not going to be nutella
