Hi Guys, I'll be leaving on a roadtrip In may to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Disneyland. I'm wondering which 1 lens to take with me? 18-105 or 50mm Afs 1.8G? Thanks

I would think the 18-105 would be a good walk a round lens. In Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Disneyland the 18 will give you a nice wide angle for the views. The 105 will let you zoom in for a nice close up. It is small and light weight so won't weigh you down.

Definitely the 50mm.

You'll have stories about the shots that you couldn't get.
Just like fishermen always talk about the ones that get away.

If those are the only choices, take the zoom. A 50mm on a DX camera is going to make you wish you had something wider for landscapes and cityscapes for sure. The 50mm is a great, sharp lens. But the 18-105 is no slouch and unless there's one "can't miss" photo that you know you need the sharpness and dof of the 50mm for or it'll ruin your trip, that's the one to take.

BTW, that 50 wrapped in a sock will fit in your second pair of shoes in your suitcase. :)

Truth is, the shoe thing was a hint that the 50mm isn't that big, won't take up much room and may be something that they might want to take along. As opposed to a choice between am 18-105 and a 55-200 or 70-300.

If it were me going on this trip I would take the zoom and leave the 50 behind. Last vacation I went on I took a bunch of jazz and used only two lenses and one camera...28 and 105...hummm

Eye-level touches on a real good point. Are you going on a trip where you'll have a camera with and will look for opportunities to take pictures, or are you going on a trip to different places with the intention of taking pictures? It sounds like the former, which screams to me "just take the zoom". If it's the latter then I'd figure out a way take both just in case you have a need for some sharp, razor thin DoF stuff.

If you can really only take one, I'd say the 18-105. If you can, bring the 50mm also as suggested. You might not want to carry the 50 around, but you could leave it where you are staying and might want to use it for some night shots.

If your trying to be funny your not not sure who po'ed you but get a grip or 4-3 into the sunset which means get lost
Normally I don't respond to people being rude to me for no reason on general principle but my meeting got cancelled so it works out there's a hole in my schedule after all.

First off, I'd like to point out YOU don't get to decide if my jokes are funny or not. I did some checking around and my sources confirm this. They also confirm my joke WAS funny so if you don't think it was, how about you do the logical thing and just move on, sans commentary? Promise I'll do the same when your joke isn't funny.

Secondly, who here needs to get a grip? The new guy posting a quip or one the "cognoscente" of the forums coming unglued over a harmless aside? Maybe you need to find a relaxing hobby, or cut some caffeine out of your diet or get laid or something, I'm not sure; maybe try the shotgun approach and apply them all liberally.

That's all I really wanted to say... I'll let you get back to strangling puppies, or whatever it is you do when you're bashing people here on the forums. I've taken up too much of your time already.

Thanks and have a great day.

Half portraits of a single individual at any time using a D90...

I suppose it could help you freeze some roller coasters or other rides...set the camera up for bracketing and you might get some good hdr fodder out of the fast fifty...

Maybe you should take it...practice practice practice with it before you go...learn what it does well with your D90 and what you intend to do with the combination before you go...
