GIMP help

Okay, I've decided for now to use GIMP 2.8 for editing till I figure out what I actually want and am willing to pay for. So I'm looking for tutorials or info on how to use it, any suggestions? Or should I be able to use Photoshop tutorials to help me with it?

Well there are plenty of tutorials on using GIMP on the website but learning Photoshop will not prepare you for GIMP, or vice versa. Well, the concepts are the same (brushes, layers, masks, etc.) but menus and execution will be totally different.

If you're serious about doing good post processing I would suggest you download some free trial versions of Ligthroom, Photoshop and maybe an ACDSee product like Pro 7 or Photo Editor 6.

I will eventually but not sure exactly which I want to spend money on yet. And wanna mess around in the mean time.

That's where the Free trials come in handy, not sure if there are Gimp tutorials on Youtube but there are thousands of Photoshop tutorials there.

My personal recommendation is to stay with the industry standards which seem to be Lightroom and Photoshop. The main reasons are the abundant information/classes/tutorials/forums that support the products and lastly all of the downloadable plugins and filters which come in very handy if you are serious about your photos.

I actually purchase the academic versions (college daughter & teacher daughter) which are greatly reduced in price.

There are LOTS of tutorials for GIMP, but you must understand that the learning curve is quite steep for this.
But once you master or get close to it, you would love it for it's functionality, the number of plugins you have which keep coming up considering this to be open source..
plus you'll always feel happy that you spent zilch on the SW..
if you do intend to have an easier workflow, trying out Lightroom would be the way to go, cos anyone can learn it super quick and the results are quite outstanding
