I have a couple of blinkers in my family so I decided to give FV lock a shot. First I set my F button on the front for FV lock. I was trying some portraits at the following settings - ISO 400, f/5.6, shutter 1/160. I was spot metering so that I was in TTL mode on the SB-700. I use back button focus so I first focused on the eyes, I then pushed the FV lock button and a Preflash fired and the FV lock showed up in the viewfinder. Then I half pressed (which I assume does nothing at this point with FV lock on) and took the shot. It was way underexposed, maybe 2 to 3 stops. OK, now I pushed the FV lock again until it did not show up on the viewfinder and took the shot again. This time the exposure was right on. In both cases I was bouncing off an 8 foot ceiling about 8 feet away from the subject doing a head shot at 85 mm.
What am I doing wrong here??
