From Photoshop to Lightroom

So I got tired of how much of a bother Photoshop was becoming I decided to try out Lightroom. Honestly, I'm liking it. Much lighter than Photoshop so it doesn't take so long to open up and without a bunch of features that I'll never use and also better and faster than Capture NX-D which would take several seconds to actually show the edits that I made to images.

So far, so good.

I do perfer lightroom over Photoshop for editing my pictures, maybe I've not given photoshop a real chance.

I've been using lightroom for over 9 months now, like it for its setup and ease of use.

With Photoshop I've not even scratched the surface of what it is capable of,

Don't really get on with capture NX-D, I did try it out but never really got the hang of it.

Lightroom does 90% of what I want to do with my photos. For the other 10%, I rely on Photoshop Elements and several second-party plug-ins.

That being said, most serious amateurs and pros that I know utilize Photoshop extensively.

But that doesn't matter. if it accomplishes what you want to get done, then it's perfect!!

Years ago in the early days, I used Picasa. I tried Photoshop Elements when I started looking for more control. I never warmed up to it, but instantly felt comfortable with Lightroom when I finally tried it. I really like the organizer functions of Lightroom too. Now that I recently signed up for Adobe cc, I am feeling much better about Photoshop than I did with Elements. Not that full Photoshop is any easier, but I think the pressure is off because I get most of my needed results in Lightroom and I can take my time now and just enjoy the Photoshop learning.
To the OP: tag your photos in Lightroom with keywords right from the start. You can bulk tag too. I tag in waves, I might tag the whole batch with a location or major feature like 'lake', then I go back later and additionally tag with more precise words, like 'bird', 'duck' etc. It goes quickly and saves you a big project down the road if later decide you should have tagged the images.

I have been using Lightroom since it first came out, I also use Photoshop, currently I have CS6, there remains many, many, should I say many things Photoshop can do that Lightroom cannot. The more advanced you become and the more demanding your work (search for excellence) becomes the more you'll need advanced editing in Photoshop, there is a reason Adobe still has both.

I have been a Photoshop user for many years and am constantly learning more and more about it. I recently started using Lightroom (The CC package) I started using it for the cataloging feature more than anything else. I treat LR just like I did Adobe Camera Raw which is basically what it is. I still go to PS because I like the way it handles plugins like NIK much better. Every photo i care enough to post goes through LR and PS. once you get used to the work flow it is fast.

I'll be keeping Photoshop as well as there are some things it can do that Lightroom can't. Maybe as I get more accustomed to it I'll use it more often.
