Focusing Issues

Hey everybody. So recently I've been having some really weird focusing issues, and I have a gig this Sunday for a wedding. I took matters into my own hands (I had no other option ultimately) and was trying to adjust the auto-focus dial with a 2mm allen wrench, however it seems like I can't find the perfect medium between photographing different objects (and a focus chart) to obtain the perfect focus on every single one.

I'd really love some suggestions on how to make sure my focus is spot on for Sunday - I really can't be worrying about my pictures not being focused! D:

Also, I just got a 50mm f/1.8 today, and I know not to use it at f/1.8.

Would really appreciate tips, help, pointers, etc.

There's a small dial behind the mirror that you can adjust auto-focus.
And I know not to use f/1.8 to test auto focus because it's a little soft.

Ahh ok - thought you were talking about on the body itself.

And again my error, thought you meant not using f/1.8 at all, as opposed to not using it for test focus :)

Nope. But I really haven't been able to get a perfect focus, just went outside and took some pictures and the majority were front focusing, so I guess I'll have to try and fix that. Wish I had a Nikon store around I could have them fix it, but I don't have time to ship it D:
