What focus mode do you use with the Tamron 150-600

What focus mode do you find works best for Bird in Flight or other fast moving subjects like sports

Just exploring all the modes. Shooting only one mode per day at the same place with the same birds. That way I get to see keeper rates and ease of shooting. Interesting study. I just like to see what others are doing.

And I am getting very excited about the M&G this month. Even my wife is getting excited.

I voted single, but I am not the best one to advise on BIF, as I don't do it very often, and when I do its on birds that are soaring above, eg Eagles and Kites.
But I will be watching with interest to see what the experts do.

well I only have the Sigma 150-500(and can't vote) I have tried all focus modes and always go back to single point

Bluebird sky and nothing in the back ground D9 works good

But that's just me :D

depends on the bird and surroundings. Nine point if the bird is in the clear. Single point when nine point may not lock on the bird. VOTED SINGLE.

Been playing several trips with the different focus modes. Next time the sun comes back out I am going to try the Group mode. Not sure I have ever tried that mode before. Many sites claim that this is the best mode for bird in flight.

We will see.

I believe focus modes depends more on the camera than what lens you have on for BIF.
I tried all modes with my D750 and the most consistent one that I have found was single point AFC.

Having done much research into the D500, it seems that a lot of people like using group mode for BIF with that particular cam.

I have always used single point but I am willing to try other things in depth to see how they all work. I like to explore my D750 to see if I can get better

After a couple of outings using the Group mode on the D750 I can say it is probably the mode I will be using for BIF. Fast acquisition of focus and it holds it well. I am getting more keepers. I don't think the D7100 or D7200 have that mode.

For birds in flight or fast, erratic targets I use 9 point, keep it dead center and shoot a little wide so I have what I need to recompose in post.

For bigger critters I usually go with 1 point, aim for the eye, again shoot wide and recompose in post unless I have have plenty of time, in which case I will occasionally move the selector and compose a bit more on camera.

Group mode again today with great results. I did try another variant today. A monopod with a Gimbal on it. That was great. Easy to track BIF and even better for stationary birds. I think this is what I will start with at the M&G next week. At least for the morning. May switch over for the afternoon. We will see.
