Im looking for a cheap flash to get started with. I have the D5100 with an 18-105 lens.
Will a flash like this one be ok for general use?

Yes.

I used YN 468-II on my D5100 for a long time; it's a superb strobe. The '560 is everything the 468 is and then some.

At less than £50 it seems a good deal.

There's some good reviews out there for the YN-560 and it should serve you well.

Don't forget to also invest in some good rechargeable batteries
