I've a newbie to photography and in doing my homework I decided to get an SB-700 and the R1 System-less the SU-800-as my initial lighting gear. My rationale was to get the R1 for when I start to get into Macro-Still life stuff. I'm just wondering if I was wise in these purchases and where to go lighting-wise from here. Thanks in advance for any advice!
The R1 system is the best offering from Nikon for macro photography.
But it is good only for Macro photography.
The SB700 is a brilliant flash as well & will serve in all your needs... almost
you may find it falling a bit short in terms of power, which the SB910 would fill..
these would matter if you are shooting in large halls or a big group, if not with the SB710 you are good to go.
Going forward you could look at another SB700 or SB910, or you can even give the Yongnuo flashes a go as they perform pretty well
and the price factor is unbeatable..
but the important question here is, what do you intend to do?
do you need another flash?
