First Time Macro

Hi guys,
I've been trying my hand at some macro photography and I've found it really fun actually. It's amazing how you can find all sorts of things to shoot just in your garden. I'm not saying that they're interesting things but they were a good place to start for me I think.
These were shot with the 18-55mm kit lens on a Nikon D3100.
If anyone could give me some tips it'd be great, especially on composition, because all I've done is followed the rule of thirds.

PS. I think you've done real well using the kit lens! But I would recommend getting a good macro lens when you can, if your into taking macro shots. I would suggest the 105mm micro if you can afford it. Again cool shots! :D

You have done really well and spectacular using the kit lens for macro.

#1 I would have liked the red just a little lighter and the white of the flower a tad bit brighter. Really like the in your face of it.

#2 Too much empty space for me. However, I'm just not sure how I would crop it for my liking.

#3 Really like the colors, sharpness and it's past its prime look. The flower needs to have that dead space to the right cropped out or the flower actually needed to be placed on the right side of the picture looking into the picture rather than out of it.

#4 I like it just the way it is. Maybe a little tweaking of colors here and there, but that is a matter of personal preference.

You've pulled off some pretty good macro using a lens not designed for it. Nice job.

Those are my thoughts. Really liked the pictures and keep at it.

And sorry Don, I got a bit excited with uploading photos, I'll stick with one next time.
