They say it's difficult to catch lightening. I've never tried. How did you anticipate where the flashes/bolts would be? It looks like there was plenty of activity, which made it easier to capture. Nice job.
Yeah you just pick your spot and be steady remote with tripod is best.. Try to set it for best Dof I'm by no means an expert but I'm learning..I knew there was going to be a lot action so. Parked where there was a clear view of field and kept snapping..
Nice shots, but if i may I would like to offer some advice. Use a tripod unless its really dark, if its dark then you can use the settings that you did except use bulb mode, then when you get a strike take your finger off the shutter. This will only capture the strike and it will be sharp 'if' you set your focus to infinity and in manual.
I second Scott's recommendation on the tripod. You've got to be in a pretty dark spot to use the bulb method, but regardless of method they'll be much better appreciated if there's nothing moving but the giant sparks.
Agreed.tripod would have been ideal.. . I was just happy so many showed up. Next time.. Will be better I'm sure. My DD was mad at me though.. For being out there.. .
