I'm pleased with the resulting mount system. I had to do some grinding and adjusting, but it works like a champ! I will use a very lightweight umbrella like the ones you mount to a beach chair. It is fully adjustable to any angle and will keep the sun off the lens. I won't use it until I go to Ohio in a couple of weeks, but I'm sure it will work well. Total cost: less than $9.

The arm is easily removeable at the connection in the last photo, or the whole thing folds.

This apparatus is for use with my D5100 (tripod) and my LX7 (monopod) set ups. I doubt I will use it with the Beast (D800 with 7 foot tripod).

Sometimes, I don't detect flare until I'm processing and it may ruin a good photo. And I don't like lens hoods. I'm hoping this rig will eliminate that problem.

Picked up the umbrella today. I will remove the umbrella's chair mount (white at the bottom of the handle) for more flexability.
