fine tuning auto focus

Hi,first post.has anyone used the dot tune method to adjust focus fine tune? I don't want to purchase software if I don't have to.I,m having trouble focusing with my tamron 70-200 F2.8.thanks, Troy

​I've done the 45 degree angle thing and dot tune before. Dot tune didn't work on my 16-85, it definitely back focused constantly. For all primes it did work wonders however. I'll continue to use dot tune because it's A: easier, B: takes less time, C: accurate enough for what you need to shoot.

However, the less time you spend worrying about focus "issues", the more you can spend actually being a photographer.

I spent a load of time chasing the AF on my D800. I found anything looking through the viewfinder became subjective. In the end I bought the Reiken Focal software. It seems to work well if you set it up and light the target properly.
