Hi guys,

I am trying to find the right settings for taking focused shots in face detection as i shoot self portraits. Does anyone do this or have this down well at all? i was shooting in afs mode matrix metering, and tried with live view off for framing then also turning it off to.

I use a remote though i dont think that should be a problem. Should i maybe be in afa auto mode or using 9/51 points? I also had af on. Would love any help

Thanks

Try using the WiFi mode and single point. Just tap on the phone where you want it to focus and it will focus there. then fire. I use this every time I have to be in the photo myself.

Place an object where you'll be sitting/standing for your shot and llet the auto-focus focus on this temporary subject. Now turn off the auto-focus, remove the temporary subject and use the self-timer, or remote shutter release, to take the photo.

This method kind of defeats the method of having self detection on the camera, though guess im going to have to disable it and try

The method I suggest is simple and, more importantly to me than some bell or whistle feature, it works every time. If you want to use Face Detection, though, go for it. I've tried it, and it works pretty well, though it's easily confused in my experience and requires using AF-A mode, which I don't like. No reason not to try it though if you want.

Turning on Face Detection on under Matrix Metering (custom setting b4) means the camera will do its best to detect faces in the frame for metering purposes (in case that's important) and, as I said before, you'll need to be in AF-A mode so the camera can try to automatically focus on faces in the frame.
