hi i would like a filter for my 50mm lens i dont want to pay mega bucks.just want one to mess about with was gonna take photos at the beach and try and get the blurd effect.any reccomendations?

What is a blurd effect? Do you mean a long exposure that is long enough for the water to move and create a soft, silky look?

If you just want to 'mess around', then buy the cheapest one off ebay.

That's called a neutral density filter. The higher the number 4, 5, etc... the darker. You can also purchase a variable.

Look at the ICE brand filters... not too costly, not too bad. I'd recommend a 10 stop for daylight beach shooting.

Probably 52mm, but don't trust us. The filter size should be printed somewhere on the lens. Or if you have a lens cap, it is usually marked with the size.

Yeppers! 58ø = filter thread diameter of 58mm.
