First off, you did not mention why you needed a filter on your lens. There are millions of different reasons to put a lens on the front of your lens. If you can be more specific, we might be able to answer your question.
As for brands, all I use are Hoya Multicoated filters
If I might ask, why would you use either just to protect your lens' front element? Both are filters designed for special applications and both reduce the light coming through the lenses. To protect your lens, all you need is a piece of clear glass.
Nono, my question was Dont you use any filters to improve the quality of your photos such as polarising or ND filter, I wasnt suggesting that you use them for protection....
Sorry if my answer was lacking but I tried to be provide a specific answer to an open question. I actually use a Hoya polariser, B&W ten stop ND and Cokin slot in filters. I gave that example as I trust it on all my lenses.
I have been happy with my Hoya ND filters and Marumi CP's. The ND's are all 77mm and I use adapter rings for the 72mm and 67mm lenses I have. I have a mixed bag of UV's and clears, mostly Hoya and B&W, for every day protection.
All I use are Hoya, B&W and Tiffen, all different sizes, all for different reasons. Some are polarizers, some are Haze, some are clear. Depends on what I'm shooting and where.
But I am a bit beside my shoes. I tried different exposures, shot in M mode, ISO 100, Focus manual. Every photo is not clear it has a touch of blue. Soon I will take another photo so you can see what I mean. This is the filter for my 10-20. JUst now I am afraid to buy a new for my 16-85mm until I figure out how to use it correctly.
