My brother is a Canon Pro rep (yes, my Nikon shooting frustrates the hell out of him), and I often get to play with all his goodies (his job is to have everything) and I have to say that their mirrorless cameras are really, really good. The first time I used one was in September 2018 in a dark club and when I looked through the viewfinder I didn't recognize where I was because I saw everything in perfect detail. The strides they're making on those are being applied to their pro DSLR's, and as I sat around a fire pit with a cigar, a bourbon, and the not-yet announced 1D ("You're one of less than 50 people in this country to hold one of these - if I see anything on Canon Rumors I will kill you!!") he told me to stick it in live view and point it at a dark tree line 250 yards away, and I'll be damned if it didn't focus on it perfectly. Really impressive camera - but not enough to get me to switch. I truly hope Nikon gets its act together, because they're falling behind. He told me that at various events he's been to supporting pros they have been sharing a space with Nikon and Sony support folks and he said that it's effectively crickets at the Nikon counter. That's not something that made him happy because they want the competition, but it doesn't bode well after the rumors that they almost shuttered the camera division last year. I'm sticking with my Nikons until they wear out, but if we don't see something impressive in the Z8/9 area announced this year it will speak volumes as to where Nikon is.
