Not sure exactly what happened, seems I missed the action.
But he got banned, and started up his own forum called Nikonzen.

I looked the other day and it seemed to be posts with eye level and pistonbroke having a moan about this site.

And the only traffic that seems to be going there are threads that are opened here discussing them/their site.
Personally i never had any problems with Pistnbroke or Eye-level or even WestMill (not sure who the other bloke is, if he was from here)..

In fact i did learn new things from them.. and a few of their posts were witty
but i guess the maturity levels waned...
and things became more of an ego contest than photography discussions...

They could've actually done a great job of opening a new site/forum, but that doesn't seem to have happened.
It seems to be based on the premise of primarily pissing some people off and bad mouthing people they don't like..
May seem cool to start with, but that definitely is not a kind of environment for photographers & artists...
Hackers & the like would prolly love it..

I went to have a look, and that's about all just a look. Too many grumpy unsettled wanna be experts over there. No Thank you! This place & Canadian- Digital are the only sites I visit on a regular basis.

I checked it out not long after it started, they had about 4 threads going and about 4 members.

Went to check it out again straight after I posted earlier in this thread, couldnt get in without signing up. Not for me, I think I'll just stay here.

Jeff has a Photography Forum at www.nikonzen.com , for those of you that do not know already. I am a member there.

At this time it is a private forum, with the purpose of discussing and learning about Photography. No ads. You can discuss whatever you want, however you want. It's like a Forum with Freedom.

It is amazing to me to see the some of the very same Forum Members here, that "liked" Jeff's posts and threads, to be making disparaging comments about him and his efforts now. I found Jeff to be very knowledgeable, and ready to share what he knows with anyone that asked, like most here. Possibly his mistake was to be too honest in his posts. Evidently that is frowned on here. And, yes, his American English was salty....a mirror of the real world. Rules are Rules, of course. However, the interpretation of rules and laws all over the world, vary greatly from one judge to another, as we know.

This is the first Forum I have ever been active in, and have learned from many here, including Jeff. Thanks for that. I also learned that "likes" really don't mean anything. I tried to be sincere in my *likes*, unlike everyone, I guess.

I think Jeff is a good guy. Works hard. Loves his family. Tries to do his best. Just like most all of you. No one deserves to have stones thrown at them when they are down. This forum has the ingredients to be better than that, surely.

One has to wonder why a photography forum is setup to be "private". All the forums i visit, you can read what people are saying on the forums, that is why people join them. I also find it ironic that you are talking about friends the way you do, since i was banned after helping him out with adding content and now all that content is gone. I wish him luck, but i don't think it will go anywhere if he keeps it "private".

Just a quick comment (or 2)... I never really had any run-in with Jeff... was not even originally aware he was banned as others also stated (they were asking about him.)

The fact that this site does NOT "publicly Flog" the banned or probationary member is a credit to the mods here.

I re-read all the posts in this thread, and MOST were not disparaging to Jeff, nor really to his effort. Comments by some that "you are better off here" etc are in fact truths at this time... (does not mean his site will not grow..) It is almost like going to watch a movie because you like the title, yet have not seen the Trailer, do not know the Plot or who the actors are.. Thats not likely to happen either! :)

Other comments (including mine) that I would not register to join a site without seeing any content is just a fact (for a lot of people Period). I also agree with others that he is stunting the growth by that method but that is his choice.

I do think if you stand back and read for what is actually written, most were not disparaging, friends or not.

Anyway, have a great day and nothing wrong with frequenting both sites if you choose... :)
