Extension tubes

Am I correct in assuming that using extension tubes interrupts the auto focus capability? Do they also have an effect on the metering?

They might. There's no one, single answer.

If the tubes have electrical contacts and the mechanical connection for actuating the aperture, it depends on the camera they're attached to. The upper end of bodies will maintain AF and metering, while entry-level bodies will lose it due to low light.

If you buy tubes with full communication your 50mm f1.8 would stand a chance of working with the full set,i would certainly expect it to work with some of them but never tried.

Wanting to shoot better macro's.

I have a 60mm and 105mm macro lens.

I'm thinking of buying some extension tubes.
I'm leaning towards the Kenko variety (about $150 CDN).
On Amazon.ca I see there are several others on offer for about half that around $75-90 (Neewer, Cowboy Studio, Polaroid, etc).
There are totally manual ones for less but I think I'd want the auto-exposure capacity.
I understand that in the macro world Autofocus isn't all that useful.
Any recommendations on these tubes?

And lighting.
Maybe an LED ring-light. I've been watching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUVLxbZtEPk and it has increased my interest in macro.

I have two 4x5" LED's sets that I can use with an attachment that allows me to position the light on either side of the subject, wonder if ring would add that much?
