Exposure Z6III

Went to zoo, first shoot with new Z6III. I had exposure compensation on 0, photos were dark. Was overcast, shooting outside. Shutter priority, auto ISO. Shot white birds. Adjusted 1/3, still dark. Had to go a full stop over to get good exposure. Walked around, shot elephants, was overexposed a full stop, went down to 1/3, was OK. I didn't see this in my D500, shot at the zoo a lot with it. Something unique to the Z6III?

What value did you have for shutter speed? Lens with variable aperture, depending on zoom?
Auto ISO: What value did you get on the different photos?

Maxrix, shutter priority, Nikon 200 500 mm.
Photos too large to attach. I thought camera was shooting Raw but set to JPEG. The menus on this thing drive me crazy. Two settings for Raw I finally found out.

Darker photo f5.6, 1/2500, 64000 ISO, 420mm.
Lighter photo f5.6, 1/1000, 64000 ISO, 440mm.
Lighter photo was set 1 stop faster. Guess slower shutter speed could be a factor. Also maybe I should have shot center weighted.

You can resize your photos to 1000 on the long size to post here.

I got my Z6iii a couple of days ago, and I have spent much time on youtube to set up my camera. If my old (?) Z6 had 250 settings, this one has at least 500!
If you use a slower shutter speed (no problem since the IBIS take care of any camera movements, I have shot with shutter speed as long as 1,5 sec and it's razor sharp!), go up in aperture and you will see the ISO go down. I have mine set to maximum ISO 25600.
It seems that you are in the outskirts of what's possible to manage with this camera, despite it's a very capable one.
The camera is set to Jpg only when delivered.
Raw + JPG is set in Photography menu (camera) -> Picture quality > ....

Do you have max ISO set to 64000? That would account for the settings selected by the camera. 1/2500 might have been too fast for the light conditions and if 64000 was set as your max ISO, the camera couldn't do any more to correct your exposure.
