Great Grey owl?
Yes, Strix nebulosa. We also frequently get Strix varia the Barred Owl.
Much better. Now it's up to you to decide how you really like it. But remember to try having a wide histogram so you have a large white to black tone range.

What I mean is that you have to have blacks and whites, both with detail and all the range in between. Unless you want a special effect. If you look at your histogram when you have a dull or flat subject (like your owl for example), you don't have blacks and not enough contrast to make the picture punch. In that case, you can darken the blacks and bring up the highlights (contrast adjustment) and then you can adjust the brightness to give your image character. Harder to explain than to do (at least for me).Would you mind explaining exactly what you mean by "wide histogram" please and how do I go about achieving it?
