email from Nikon Support ?

I received an email this morning from [email protected] telling me that I would receive another email asking me to change my password, anybody else got this email ? just want to know if it is a fake email or genuine.

below is the email I have received.

We've been working hard to improve customer support at Nikon. The system that lets you register Nikon products or ask our specialists a question, is getting an upgrade soon. Once the work is done, you’ll receive an email from us asking you to change your password for security reasons. This will only take a moment.

No. I haven't received anything like this even though I sent my flash in for repair during the summer.

Rather obviously fake. Whatever you do, do not submit any personally-identifiable information to any site at any link given in that or any subsequent email, nor in any reply to any email address connected therewith.

I cannot find any credible evidence as to who owns the domain RNMK.COM, but if this was from Nikon, it'd be from a domain that was clearly and openly associated with them. A quick Google search seems to show that this domain has been associated with a number of similar phishing scams purporting to be from a number of other unrelated companies.

thank you for the info guys, I have not clicked on anything and never do until I do some checking, Bob I was thinking the same about Nikon being upfront, I have notified Nikon Support.

I got that email as well. Just deleted it. I will wait and see if there is a follow up email.

I have not gotten that email, but recently registered a new lens. *shrug*

Soon after you reply to this e-mail, I bet they send you a recall notice for some of your gear and a bogus service center address, likely a PO Box. After the equipment is sent in, you'll never see it again, nor will you hear from these scammers!

Possible, but more likely, just a simple phishing scam. That seems to be what this domain is being used for. Not trying to get you to send any physical objects of value; but to get you to give them information which they can then use to access your bank accounts, or steal your identity.
