I took the intent of the original post as more a "gee whiz" thing than as an actual suggestion, and had more to do with getting a frame full of light from the DX lens than it did with a practical solution that someone might look to implement. Technically, while the 1.5x is discontinued and impractical from a functionality point of view, you could also get a full frame from a 1.7x or 2x converter as well (and probably a 1.4x with a zoom in some/most of its focal length). The real question is "Why?" given that you've likely gone FX for image quality reasons, and every part of this game of numbers - from the traditionally at-best-equal-but-probably-inferior nature of DX glass, to the reduced IQ introduced by the TC - does nothing but introduce impediments to image clarity and quality? If I like my DX glass then I'll just shoot in cropped mode and be happy.
