It does have gates on top of each segment but at this time the dam is just historical since the water power has not been used since the mid 1900s when they fully transitioned to electricity.The town used to be vacant by 6pm every night but we now have two restaurants downtown and some evenings it is hard to get a parking place anywhere close.  This is small town Alabama though still.  That is why I really like it here,</blockquote>
