Does/Has anyone use/d a Flash with Your Telephoto?

At the Tamron Tailgate party that came through here, there were quite a few people who use flashes in conjunction with their zooms to fill in the shadows with birds deep in the canopy.
I was curious if you all had any experience or recommendations for settings or techniques.

One annoyance is like the "red-eye" one sees with people, ...it's pearly white with birds, even at fairly long distances.

I have not, but there are a few articles by bird photographers who use "Flash Extenders" to extend the flash range to nearly 100m. As one of them said, flash gives a new dimension to bird photography.

I used off camera flash for this shot, taken at dusk. Set up two SB-800s in the area I knew the hummingbird would frequent. The flash didn't seem to bother the little guy.

Assuming you mean mounted on the hot shoe. No. Off camera, yes.
