Do you routinely use desiccant in your camera bag?

Looks like they are quite big crystals - I'd be worried about that prodding against your kit.
Also, does it change colour to indicate it needs a re-charge so to speak?

I've bought some self indicating silica gel beads (Silica Gel Dessicant Granules Beads Self Indicating Loose Multilisting | eBay) recently, and intend to use it in a suitable container once I find one (there are many lone socks around the house which are suddenly screaming out at me to be used!)

The only thing I might be a little concerned with is that kitty litter is dusty. Plus the point you brought up about not knowing when it needs replacing. The stuff I use does change colors and only needs to be plugged in the an AC outlet to recharge it. A onetime buy seems to be well worth it in my opinion.

The product I linked to.... is not Kitty Litter as most are use to seeing.
It is the exact same Silica pellets already found in the dessicant packs. If you were to simply take 8lbs worth of desicant packets and tear them open... you would have the same thing that comes in this product.
No dust. (When I get home I will take a picture for better reference.)

As far as crystal size... not sure I am following the concern. These would no more bump up against your stuff than any of the other products and their cases that have been referenced by others. Not dismissing your concern but not sure I am following you.

***Edit*** if you are refering to just dumping loose crystals into the camera case and these getting into your gear. That is not my intent. I am putting the crystals into a Coffee filter and folding the filter over and stapling close (Looks like a tea-bag) Have also seen where people have put the crystals into a toilet paper roll and affixed/taped/rubber-banded cloth over both sides. The cloth allows the tube to breath and moisture to pass into the crystals while the crystals are secured in the tube.***

As far as self indicating (Color changing). No. These do not. However my intent is to take them out and 'recharge them' once a month. About the same time pattern my older pack used to require.

I like the plug in one and actually use a similar for my Rifle vault. I also have one referenced earlier that turns purple when requireing a recharge and just pop it in the oven a few hours. Only intent was to show another option for those that might not have anything else.

Oh ok! I was only tuned into the words "cat litter" that you used in you original post. I had always associated cat litter with being a dusty product. I guess you can heat that product as well to dry it out?

Good Idea,, I keep my gear in a dry space in my home and only bag when using on a shoot, but,, even then,, might be a good idea.
