Last year I spent many hours going through my requirements with L&G in the UK as we have quite a lot of gear. I thought I was happy until I rang to add another lens to the policy and was told I never should have been allowed to insure all the gear as they only do simple insurance nowadays. I was told to find an alternative insurer. I ended up with NFU in the UK who seem very good and got the underwriters to verify all the gear and places I may use it like at our holiday home. It was not cheap insurance but I think it will actually pay if needed. I chose them as a guy I know dropped a 24-70 and D800 in a river and they paid without quibble. All I would say is beware of home insurance unless you read all the small print and exclusions. For example, my L&G policy only insured up to £2k in the car which was not obvious from the policy wording. Not much use if you are transporting £15k of gear!! To put it into perspective, my NFU insurance is not a lot cheaper than specialist photo insurance, so if someone is doing it for a small addition beware. Admittedly if you only have a smallish amount of gear it won't be too expensive. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
