D7100 wont power on

Hello, first off I am relatively new to the camera world so please bear with me. Ive been having trouble with my D7100 today, for some reason whenever the switch on my lens is on M/A my camera does not seek to work. I flip my camera switch on and the screen pops up for a second then dissappears. The only thing that is visible on the screen is the battery sign in the top left corner, which shows that it is fully charged.

When i flip the switch on my lens to M, the camera works completley fine. I would appreciate and help or advice with this issue, this has never happened before.

Thanks
Nick

Do you have another lens you could try installing on your '7100 body?

Are you sure the lens is *firmly* mounted on the camera body (has to be asked...)?

It was originally happening with a 10-24 mm lens, then we swapped it out for our 28-70mm lens and the same issue occured. Everything is mounted on tight as well. We have also taken out the battery and tried a different one as well as re inserting the memory cards.

Time to have a professional look at it, IMO.

First off - do complete reset of camera's settings (revert them to the factory default). Could be that some of the settings interfere with the lens's switch being set to position "A" (autofocus).

With the lens removed and after you powered it up again, you should be getting a flashing F--- and you should be able to view the menu and pictures using the rear LCD screen. Can you do that or does it power down again?

Either way, this is an electrical issue and you need to send it to Nikon Service Center for repair. I hope it didn't get dropped like what I did with mine.

ummm...I'm curious...what did you clean the contacts with? Rubbing alcohol would be a good choice. There's also electrical contact cleaner which is very good. I use a Q-Tip to clean my contacts.

Glad it's fixed and working for you.

Not to get off subject here but Q-tips? really guys? Wet or dry the fibers can come off and get into your camera.

In my lab the only type of "Q-tip" we can use is the foam kind. Yeah still a risk of a piece of foam falling off, but not as much as a Cotton Swab fiber.

Just my 2 cents.

Here's a link of a photo of one I found on the Web

Always keep clean contacts on lenses clean, glad it's working. Use a Pec-Pad and Eclipse fluid works great for me.
