D7100 file sizes

I can't find this information elsewhere so time for a new (brief) thread. It looks like my file sizes have shot from 5MB to around 25MB when I moved from the D3100 to the 7100. Is this the norm? I don't mind if it is but storage is going to be an issue sooner than I thought. I shoot in RAW and use card 2 as an overflow. I don't yet do that much post, but I do some (and want to be able to do more if I have the time/inclination). Is there any way I can reduce file sizes acceptably without reducing what I can do in post?

See page 348 of the manual where file size requirements are listed.
Shooting in RAW with big megapixel sensors will require larger files.
If you don't need RAW then consider JPEG where you have quite a good choice for file size depending on your photo size and quality needs

Thanks Patrick from Cobham. I can't RTFM because it's in Korean (this was an eBay purchase). I'll go look at Nikon support to see what it says. I've kind of got used to trying to figure things out, along with a non-Nikon How To guide, which is a tad stupid!

If you google something like '12 vs 14 bit raw', you will have days of reading. Then you get to also wonder about compressed vs lossless compressed. I have yet to investigate this for myself and I am going with the ~28mb 14 bit lossless. One point to consider that I read about was whether this should be tested on a worst case under/over exposure or something more common like a 1 or 2 stop problem.

You can download a pdf manual, its handy because you can search it.

Thanks, too, nickt. I thought that would be possible re PDF. I'm not sure I have the energy for that sort of debate. I shall look for a simple RAW v. ANO format and post if I find.

Thanks all. I have decided that I want to shoot RAW as I want to have the option to make changes and experiment with snaps later and be able to revert to the original photo when I've screwed it all up. :)
