Mauckcg... I was looking online debating on the exact same set up. I have the D5200 right now and was debating on trading it in until they told me it was basically worthless. (not really of course, but low enough that I didn't want to trade it.)

Congrats on the buy. I hope to join the club soon.

It's fast but not much of a zoom(28-50) range barely wide angle to standard. $800 ?

This is true. Most of my car show shots fall into that range, and it is also the range i use for landscape/cityscape shots. It won't get nearly as much use as my 70-200, but I certainly have some uses for it.

$800 is a killer price for a 1.8 zoom, which performance wise is better than the nikon 24-70 AFS in its range. and the nikon costs $1100 more, so $800 is a very nice price. I wish I could use it on my FF cameras, but at a loss of rez.

im waiting to see news of the the sigma 24-70 f/2 (not holding my breath but curious) & tokina 24-70 (not holding my breath less so but still curious) no way am I buying that cheap build 24-70 AFS.

I got one today but haven't had much time to take it out and play with it. I have it connected to a D7100 with a battery grip and that rig is really heavy. Shot a few photos around the house and this is wonderful.

I can only imagine a 1.8 zoom for FF. I love heavy gear though. great for stability. the D3/70-200...eh, gets tiring after many hours of use at a wedding.

if they made a version like that for FF, I would be happy. it doesnt even need to be a 1.8. 2.8 is fine, but it needs to be sharp as hell. that sigma is very sharp at 2.8 and careful not to cut yourself at f/4.
